Summary of Opera

Carmen is about a woman who makes corporal Don José fall in love with her. Don José is already engaged to another woman named Micaëla, who in comparison to the boisterous, and flirtatious Carmen, is a shy and meek peasant girl. Don José gets imprisoned for helping Carmen escape her own imprisonment, where later they would meet at a tavern. At that tavern Don José gets into a jealous rage when he finds out that Carmen was dancing for his lieutenant, which makes him fight the lieutenant when he returns to the tavern which forces Don José to join Carmen’s group to their mountain hideaway. In the mountains Carmen tells Don José that her love is fading, and tells him to leave, then we see Carmen and her friends are playing a card fortunes games in which all she sees for herself and Don José is death. Don José leaves when Micaëla finds, and tells him that his mother is dying; he leaves but warns Carmen that he will return. Carmen now with her new fling Escamillo the bull fighter,

Blog 3: Broadway

I picked Judy Garland’s and Michael  Bublé  Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas  because my mom in the middle of July will start playing Christmas music. The first song that usually comes on is  Have Yourself a Merry Little Christmas  which for me always brings up me in sitting in the car in July going “why?” After watching these two videos you could see how even throughout the years the words of the song are the same, but the composition of the song changes. In Garland’s hers is more somber, and slow because she seems to be trying to cheer up the child who is on the verge of tears. In Bublé’s his sounds happier in comparison to Garland’s, yes, the music is still on the low side but his sound is much more cheerful. Fifty Percent  sung by Dorothy Loudon was very beautiful, the music that is soft when Loudon sings softly but then gets powerful when she brings more emotion in it. I love the line when she says “…you don’t plan to fall in love. When you fall, you fall.” This concept i

Opera Paper

Carmen premiered on March 3, 1875 written by French Composer Georges Bizet. Carmen takes place in Seville, Spain during the mid 19 th century. Carmen brought to the opera something that was different and exciting to the people in 1875; it brought realism of what some humans are really like, and many people didn’t like that. Carmen brought to the opera something power, and moving that many people didn’t like at the time however it still has songs that are now used in commercials. Carmen is the beautiful gypsy who works at the cigarette factory who captures the heart of Don José who is a corporal of dragoons. Don José is engaged to Micaëla who is a peasant farm girl who is also beautiful. Escamillo is the bull fighter that later in the opera captures the heart of Carmen. “ Carmen , the most famous of Bizet's operas, with its exotic Spanish setting, introduced a note of realism into opera that proved unacceptable to many who saw the first performances. Objection was taken to the wil

Blog 2: Pjotr Sapegin's Madama Butterfly

Madama Butterfly was very beautiful as an animation, with or without the music you can feel the emotions of the woman throughout the animation. I love the way at the beginning we see the woman splayed out against the dark background which seems to foreshadow something bad will happen to this woman. I also love how we follow the butterfly and it becomes her hair ornament. The butterfly also follows the man after he leaves which seems to refer to her love as always following him, and being with him no matter where he is. I also love how colorful, and bright it is when the man is with her, and then when he leaves we see it become dark and you also seem cold when he leaves. The way the woman is portrayed when she realizes she is pregnant, she was patting her belly like a drum, and he reaction was “oh what’s this”, even the record player kind of had a human like reaction by turning to also look at the woman’s stomach. It was also interesting how the artist used a fish swimming around in w

"Ice Shield" Climate Change is a heavily debated topic.  "Ice Shield"  is a parody on humans false sense of safety-you are never safe from mother nature. The buildings are encased and molded into the iceberg, the city is "shielded" until the next natural disaster. Under the water you see the hidden rough sharp edges of the iceberg that showcase mother natures unpredictability.
