Blog 1:Raul Cuero's Interview/Video
In Raul Cuero’s interview, he talked about how creativity was about being good at art or being intellectual it meant that you did something that no one thought about. One thing that I can apply to my everyday life is his concept on intensity. As he said in the interview “Intensity is very important because you must be focused, compromising, and be very focused without fear or failing in the process or achieving something” (HoustonPBS). For me this can apply to my everyday life because even though I think I’m intense when I’m working on something I always have this sense of fear, especially when it comes to art that what I create isn’t good enough, and that I’ll fail no matter what. I think I will have to work on my intensity on making it so that I can be focused without that fear or failing something, that I can achieve what I set my mind to.
Another thing Cuero talked about in his interview was about our place in nature, he talked about how “…people now spend too much time on the computer, and don’t go outside to be a part of nature. That technology limits your scope on things” (HoustonPBS). In my major we are constantly on the computer to create things from our imagination or even from nature. I used to be a marine biology major so I understand how important nature is, and how much better being in nature is compared to sitting inside all day and not enjoying nature. I think it would be beneficial for me because sometimes if I’m working on a project that has us drawing a flower, it’s easier to just google one on the internet instead of getting up, and walking outside and finding a flower to draw. For me I think that getting up and going outside isn’t just for the kids of this generation but for adults as well who are stuck indoors all day, they should go out and just sit in the sun, and relax. This would help not just me but anyone who has a creative block to just go outside.
Process is something that I do almost all the time in my major, because you have to learn things step by step. I know that for some of the projects I’ve worked on I was always tempted to skip a step just to make things go faster. In Cuero’s interview he talked about how process is important because “…process is the way in which you find idea and solutions… it is a stepwise process in which ideas come about” ( HoustonPBS). Sometimes I find it hard to enjoy a process, which I know hinders my ability to create things. I try to make myself enjoy it by making a funny voice in my head explain the process that I’m doing or even make practice for things that I enjoy creating, and I’ll use the process I learned to create what it is that I enjoy.
